Ongoing health care is so important for your dog and cat. They should come in to our animal hospital, Tanque Verde Pet Hospital, for a check-up at least once a year, even when they are healthy! We recommend annual visits to help us keep track of developments in health conditions and to ensure that your dog or cat is up-to-date on all necessary preventatives and vaccines.
Whether you’re the owner of a puppy or kitten, an adult dog or cat, or a senior dog or cat, we have your pet’s needs covered. We provide ongoing veterinary care at our animal hospital for pets of all ages, ensuring that each dog and cat has the care they need at every stage of their life.
Pet vaccinations are important in Tucson due to the fact that we have a large wildlife population in close proximity to our dogs and cats. Wildlife are a reservoir for parvovirus and distemper. These diseases can spread by contact with contaminated soil. Rabies is also endemic in our area which is why, by law, all dogs must be vaccinated and licensed in the state of Arizona. Pima Animal Control maintains very strict standards concerning this and will impose heavy fines for non-compliance. In our area, we also are seeing more cases of heartworm which is spread by mosquitoes. At our veterinary hospital, we test for and dispense medication to prevent heartworm. We also test for the dangerous Valley Fever which has been seen in our area.
